Hydrogen measurement in an industrial environment places special demands on the system solutions from RMG
Gas Measurement Technology and
Gas Measurement Systems. On the one hand,
hydrogen has a standard density that is up to eight times lower and, on the other, a speed of sound that is up to four times higher, which presents different requirements in terms of measurement technology than
natural gas measurement. In addition, hydrogen has a significantly lower energy density compared to natural gas. While the calorific value of
hydrogen is around 12.745 MJ/m³, that of
natural gas is up to 46 MJ/m³. These differences require adapted measurement technologies to ensure accurate and reliable analyses.
RMG Messtechnik GmbH relies on technologies that have been tried and tested over many years. Our
turbine meters are fully hydrogen-compatible and deliver precise measurement results for
volume measurement. Ultrasonic meters are currently being tested in various pilot projects for 100% hydrogen, while they have already been successfully verified for hydrogen/natural gas mixtures of up to 40%. Our flow computers, which are also approved for pure gases such as hydrogen, also play a central role in precise
energy measurement.
RMG Messtechnik GmbH offers a comprehensive range of gas measuring instruments for
gas analysis, including the RGQ 5, RGQ 3 and RGC 7, which are specially designed for the different requirements of measuring hydrogen and mixed gases. The
RGQ 5 and
RGQ 3 enable fast and precise determination of the
Wobbe index, while the
RGC 7 impresses with its ability to perform comprehensive
gas analysis and provide essential data such as the calorific value, methane number or
Wobbe number.
Robust hydrogen meters combined with innovative analysis technologies ensure precise measurement and high availability even under demanding industrial conditions.
