Basics of gas measurement technology

OBJECTIVE
This course teaches the basic principles of gas metering technology with a focus on RMG's product and system solutions.
Participants will learn the physical principles, the functionality of the most important measuring components and the interaction of gas meters, volume conversion, gas analysis and modern data communication.
The aim is to create a comprehensive understanding of the measurement process - from recording to evaluation - and to enable participants to use RMG systems safely and efficiently.

  • Introduction to the tasks and areas of application of gas measurement technology at RMG
  • Physical principles of gas flow and gas properties
  • Gas meters: measuring principles, areas of use and typical applications
  • Volume conversion: Functionality, influencing variables and legal framework conditions
  • Gas analysis: the importance of gas composition for billing and process measurement
  • Data communication: recording, processing and transmission of measurement data with RMG systems
  • Overview of relevant standards, legal requirements and calibration practice
  • Practical examples from the RMG product portfolio - from meters and volume correctors to integrated system solutions

Basics of gas analysis

OBJECTIVE
This course teaches the basic principles of gas analysis with a focus on process chromatographs and their use in natural gas and industrial applications. Participants will learn the physical principles, how the most important components work and the importance of gas composition for billing and process control. The aim is to create a sound understanding of chromatographic measurement and its integration into modern measurement systems.


CONTENTS
  • Introduction to the tasks and areas of application of process chromatographs
  • Physical principles of gas composition and separation processes
  • Design and function of a process chromatograph
  • Importance of the components: Separation column, detector, sample preparation
  • Output variables: Calorific value, Wobbe index, density, CO₂ content, methane number
  • Communication and integration into RMG systems
  • Relevant standards and legal-for-trade requirements
  • Practical examples from the RMG product portfolio
