Our customer:

Gasnetz Hamburg GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the City of Hamburg, operates the natural gas network in the Hamburg area and employs around 600 people. The network comprises circa 7,900 kilometers of pipelines and around 160,000 house connections.

The project:

In a gas transfer station of Gasnetz Hamburg, RMG renewed two turbine gas meters, upgraded an ultrasonic gas meter, two volume correctors, a control cabinet and the process gas chromatograph (PGC).

The following RMG equipment received upgrades:

• Replacement of the existing WBZ 08 vortex gas meter with an ultrasonic gas meter, including conversion of the measuring section.
• Replacement/renewal of two existing turbine gas meters
• Installation and commissioning, interface test and parameterization
• Delivery and installation of two ERZ 2104-NG volume correctors incl. accessories
• Replacement of the existing PGC 9000-VC with PGC 9304
• Retrofitting of an encoder counter on a TRZ 03 turbine meter
• Modernization of the general electrical engineering
• Planning and design, manufacture of components and maintenance of the required drawings incl. circuit diagrams
• Construction supervision and site management by the RMG project manager in order to resolve questions/ ambiguities directly on site. Complete commissioning and documentation of all newly installed plant components.

Challenge:

• The project required a provider who could handle the entire scope of required modernizations technically and organizationally from "one source".
• A fast delivery and handling in a "short" time window (installation & IBN) enabled the realization within a very short project duration.

• RMG offered a single point of contact for a complete system with optimally matched components and services. Having everything from a single source allowed for lean project management.
• RMG was available to Gasnetz Hamburg for the project with consulting, solution finding and implementation.

Advantages:

• Thanks to the design as PGC 9304, hydrogen contents (H2) of up to 20% can be measured directly in the plant in the future. Thus we have achieved "H2-ready".
• The new gas meters are now hydrogen-compatible, i.e. "H2-ready".
• First of all, we would like to emphasize the very good service: After Sales is available in our region because RMG maintains a decentralized service structure.
• Even during the project, we benefited from fast delivery of unforeseen materials at short notice. This kept the installation phase short thanks to a certain contingency in RMG's stock.
• The technical documentation is detailed and complete. RMG has subsequently eliminated minor defects without any gaps.
